Carl von Gaertner

Carl Gerhard Conrad von Gaertner (born March 18, 1794 in Marburg , † December 4, 1840 in Ahrweiler ) was a Prussian district administrator in the Neuwied and Ahrweiler districts .

Life

Carl von Gaertner, a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church , was a son of the Upper Government Council and Trier Government Vice President Franz von Gaertner (1771-1838) and his wife Caroline von Gaertner, née Hillebrand. After graduating from high school, he studied law at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1809 to 1812 before working as an assessor at the Fürstlich-Wiedische Rentkammer in Neuwied from 1812 . In 1813 he became a government assessor and from 1813 to 1814 he served as a war volunteer with the rank of lieutenant in the campaign against France . After the end of the war he took part in the Congress of Vienna as secretary to his father Franz von Gaertner . For his commitment there in the interests of the Wied government , he became district commissioner in 1815 at the suggestion of Prince zu Wied and finally in 1816 the first district administrator of the Neuwied district. In 1822 he was transferred to the Ahrweiler district as a deputy district administrator and received his definitive appointment as district administrator there on July 8, 1825. In Ahrweiler he remained district administrator until 1840, where he died on duty.

Gaertner married on August 18, 1816 in Neuwied, the Krefeld- born Luise Caroline Winz (1796–1848), a daughter of the Consistorial Council and later the first Reformed city preacher of Neuwied, Johann Philipp Jacob Winz (1759–1813) and his wife Katharine Winz, born Rear. One of Gaertner's brothers was the district administrator of the Bernkastel district and, in his successor, Trier district president Konstantin von Gaertner .
