Franz Heinrich Freiherr von Gruben (born September 26, 1774 in Bonn , † February 4, 1848 in Koblenz ) was a royal Prussian district administrator, administrative officer and mayor.

origin

Franz von Gruben was a son of the Electorate Cologne's real secret court and government councilor Constantin von Gruben (1712–1788) and his second wife Maria Anna Josepha, born. von Vogelius (1736–1784).

Life

After attending school in Bonn, he studied law in Marburg and from 1795 to 1796 in Göttingen . He then took a job at the Imperial Court in Wetzlar and in 1800 he became assessor first instance in the Electoral Cologne Offizialat or on Hofgericht Arnsberg and shortly thereafter assessors second instance. From 1806 to 1814 he was mayor of Gelsdorf and from 1815 also of Kuchenheim . Gruben was initially district commissioner of the Adenau district before he became district commissioner for the Ahrweiler district in 1816 and finally the first district administrator of the new Ahrweiler district with his office in Blankartshof in Ahrweiler . In 1820 he was put into temporary retirement, which was followed by retirement in 1825 at his own request.

Gelsdorf Castle

After the death of his father in 1788, the Franz von Grubens siblings took over the property in Gelsdorf before he was entrusted with the management of the family estates in Gelsdorf in the summer of 1801 as co-owner of Gelsdorf Castle . As it became increasingly difficult to maintain the property financially - first attempts to sell the castle were made as early as 1790 - he and his two sisters Maria Anna and Ernestine von Gruben let the property in on January 30, 1821 in a foreclosure auction Auction capital of 13,700 thalers .
