Hans Kraft (painter)

Hans Kraft (born May 2, 1895 in Paderborn , † February 7, 1978 in Münster ) was a German painter , commercial artist and art teacher .

life and work

Hans Kraft grew up as the youngest of twelve children as the son of a railway official and a housewife in Paderborn. After his teaching examination in 1914, he was a soldier in the First World War until 1919 and was dismissed as a lieutenant. He then studied at the Kassel Art Academy from 1919 to 1921, as did Theo Hölscher and Josef Wedewer , with whom he became friends.

From 1922 to 1927 Kraft taught art in higher education in Monschau / Eifel, from 1927 to 1965 at the Ratsgymnasium in Münster. There he joined the Free Artists' Association Schanze in 1928 and became a member of the Association of German Commercial Graphics . In Münster he first lived at Studtstrasse 63 and from 1932 at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring 2. During the Second World War, he served as captain in the air force from 1939 to 1945.

Kraft traveled and painted at home and abroad, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and the Balkans. As a graphic artist, he designed numerous posters for museums (including the Landesmuseum Münster ), companies (including Blaupunkt ), city events (e.g. the Heidelberg Festival) and the Schanze (carnival celebrations, exhibitions).

His works have been shown in many major art exhibitions around the world and are represented in both public and private collections.
