Felix of Groote

Felix August Rudolph von Groote (born June 9, 1828 in Cologne , † November 22, 1889 in Ahrweiler ) was a Prussian administrative lawyer and district administrator in the Ahrweiler district .

Life

Felix von Groote was a son of Kurkölner Chancellor Joseph von Groote and his wife Margarete Auguste, born Schaffhausen. After attending a grammar school in Cologne and completing his school leaving examination in 1847, he studied law in Bonn , Heidelberg and Berlin until 1850 . He then served as a one-year volunteer in a Uhlan regiment and later he was promoted to lieutenant in the reserve . On October 16, 1850, he became an auscultator at the Cologne Regional Court and after passing the Grand State Examination in November 1852, he became a judge from May 1856 at the Bonn Regional Court . In Bonn he was still assigned to the district office for assistance and after the death of the district administrator of Ahrweiler Wilhelm von Hoevel , Groote was appointed provisional district administrator of the Ahrweiler district in July 1859. The definitive appointment as district administrator followed on August 31, 1859 by the highest cabinet order as well as the inauguration on October 4, 1859. Von Groote died at the age of 61 in 1889 after 30 years of service. He left behind 17 children from two marriages.

During Groote's tenure in the Ahrweiler district, lengthy negotiations took place to found a savings bank (1865), new elementary schools and the construction of the Ahr Valley Railway , first from Remagen to Ahrweiler (1880), then to Altenahr (1886) and finally to Adenau (1888). The district administrator's salary was 4,000 marks a year , but the operating costs for his own carriage and an accompanying person had to be paid for.

  • Felix von Groote was born on August 23, 1856 in the Vogelsang house in his first marriage to Maria Theresia Josefa Simons (born April 24, 1831 - January 5, 1866 in Ahrweiler), daughter of District Administrator Hermann Joseph Simons and his wife Christine Olbertz, married. With her, von Groote had eight children:

The mother Maria von Groote died on January 5, 1866 in Ahrweiler while caring for poor typhus sufferers after she had infected herself with the disease.

  • In his second marriage, he was in Aachen since April 25, 1868 with Anna Katharina Hasslacher (* July 6, 1840 in Aachen, † May 13, 1919 in Ahrweiler), daughter of the district administrator and police director Franz Carl Hasslacher and his wife, Therese, born Mertens married. The second marriage resulted in 7 more children.
    • Karl Franz Hubert Maria von Groote (born February 8, 1869) and 6 other siblings.
