origin

The Protestant Konstantin von Gaertner was a son of the Trier upper government council and government vice-president Franz von Gaertner (1771-1838) and his wife Caroline, née Hillebrand, who married in 1791.

Life

After graduating from the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Trier in 1824, he began studying law in Göttingen . In 1827 he was court clerk in rural and urban court Brandenburg and 1830 junior lawyer in the government Trier . While he had worked as a substitute in the administration of the District Office in Bitburg from 1830 to 1831 , he applied there for a position as District Administrator. Although he had been awarded the required qualifications, he did not get the job. The reason was a sentence of 10 years imprisonment due to a previous duel , whereby the sentence was ultimately reduced to 3 months by pardon. On November 26, 1832, he was appointed District Administrator of the Bernkastel district by means of a cabinet order . Subsequently, the assessment of his job performance was so good that he was awarded a qualification as a possible member of the government. After 12 years of work as a district administrator, in 1844 he became a member of the governing body of the Upper Presidium of the Rhine Province in Koblenz , starting on January 1, 1845, which was followed in 1846 by the same function in the Trier government council. In July 1852 he moved to the Minden government as senior government councilor and in 1855 back to the Trier government. On April 27, 1866, he was appointed district president there and remained so until his retirement on January 1, 1870.

In October 1856, however, he withdrew from politics for health reasons before the end of the electoral term.
