Helmut Gestrich
Helmut-Ludwig Gestrich (born February 2, 1931 in Trier ; † May 28, 2009 ) was a German local politician .
Life
From 1966 to 1969, Gestrich was district administrator of the district of Bernkastel and from 1969 to 1993 district administrator of the new district of Bernkastel-Wittlich . Gestrich was also deputy chairman of the district assembly of Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1993 he received the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.
After his retirement he was finally honorary mayor of the city of Bernkastel-Kues from 1994 to 2000 . After he was confirmed in his office in 1999, Gestrich resigned from his position as mayor on November 22, 2000 due to involvement in the Doerfert affair .
He was chairman of the Association for the Promotion of Cusanus Research, the Satoshi Oide Foundation and the Cusanus Society as well as the Bernkastel-Kues Cultural Promotion Association. The theologian, scientist, philosopher and churchman Nikolaus von Kues was considered his great role model.
He was a member of the Catholic student union K.St.V. Ketteler Mainz in KV .
