Konrad Schubach

Konrad Schubach (born May 9, 1914 in Ahrweiler ; † August 28, 2006 in Trier ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

Konrad Schubach studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn . In 1934 he became a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Ripuaria in the CV . After completing his studies, Schubach initially became the personal advisor to the Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Peter Altmeier .

In 1952 Konrad Schubach became district administrator in Bitburg . There, in consultation with Prime Minister Altmeier, he was supposed to establish good relations with Luxembourg and the French occupiers . The German-Luxembourg Nature Park was created in this era . After ten years in the South Eifel , Schubach said goodbye to Trier on the Moselle . Here he was again district administrator for two years before he was appointed President of the Trier administrative district in 1964 . In this function he was particularly involved in the re-establishment of the University of Trier and an honorary member of the “Friends of Trier University”. In 1973 he became State Secretary in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Agriculture , and in 1979 he retired .

Konrad Schubach described himself as an enthusiastic hiker . For almost 20 years he was chairman of the Eifelverein , one of the largest home organizations in Germany. After the sudden death of Georg Fahrbach , he became president of the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs in 1976 . He held this office until 1993. During his tenure, Karl Carstens took over the patronage as Federal President at the 1983 German Hiking Day in Fulda on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the association and donated the Eichendorff plaque . From 1989 onwards, Schubach mainly supported the reorganization of the former member associations of the German Association for Hiking, Mountaineering and Orienteering , in which hikers were organized in the GDR , and the establishment of regional associations in East Germany. In 1990 the first all-German hiking day was held in Arnsberg and the first re-established hiking clubs of the new federal states were included in the association. From 1979 to 1985, Schubach was also President of the European Hiking Association . Until his death he was also the honorary chairman of the Eifelverein and honorary president of the German hiking association. The Eifelverein donated the “Konrad Schubach Nature and Culture Prize”, endowed with 2,555 euros and named after him, which recognizes special commitment to nature conservation.

Konrad Schubach was married and had four children.
