Karl Friedrich Richard Wagner

Karl Friedrich Richard Wagner (also Carl Friedrich Richard Wagner ) (born May 22, 1848 in Altenburg , † January 2, 1915 in Göschwitz ) was a German local politician and association official.

Life

Wagner was the son of the lawyer and member of the Reichstag, Gustav Richard Wagner . His own professional career also initially led him to the judicial service. After attending the Friedrich Gymnasium in Plauen, he studied law in Jena and Leipzig . During his studies in 1868 he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the castle cellar . From 1879 he worked in the municipal administration. From 1885 until his retirement in 1908, Wagner was mayor of Plauen.

Together with Oscar Metzner, Wagner was the founding father of the Vogtland Tourist Association (today the Association of Vogtland Mountain and Hiking Associations ). From 1894 to 1897 Wagner was in charge of the management of the central committee and thus chaired the Association of German Tourist Associations.

Wagner had been married to Emma Maria nee Zumpe since 1882. The marriage resulted in a daughter who died young and two sons, Johannes Gerhard (Hans) Wagner and Karl Richard Wagner.

  • 1909: Wagner was made an honorary citizen of the city of Plauen.
  • The Wagner-Strasse in Plauen ( Neundorf settlement ) is named after him.
  • The Wagner-Metzner-Platz on the Tennerahöhe near Plauen is named after him.
