August Wilhelm Jaspert (born March 20, 1871 in Hamm ; † January 15, 1941 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a teacher and later rector, former city councilor of the city of Frankfurt am Main, member of the Prussian state parliament and the founder of the school camp Wegscheide near Bad Orb as a children's village for Frankfurt pupil.

life and work

Jaspert had worked as a teacher at the Westend Middle School in Frankfurt since 1920. From 1908 to 1933 he was the principal of the Kaufunger Schule , a middle school in Frankfurt-Bockenheim .

After the First World War , the private welfare organization Frankfurter Kinderhilfe was founded in Frankfurt , as the war had left many children in need. The reform pedagogue Jaspert, a supporter of the youth movement and chairman of the committee for holiday hikes , developed the concept of a children's village as a recreation center for the Frankfurt children. In the former military training area set up in 1914 on the Spessartberg Wegscheide not far from the spa town of Bad Orb, he found suitable terrain. He pushed ahead with the expansion of wooden barracks and stables and opened the Wegscheide Children's Village on August 20, 1920 . At his instigation, numerous Frankfurt schoolchildren were able to spend four weeks doing sport, nature and healthy eating there. To this day, every Frankfurt schoolchild takes a class trip to the crossroads once in their school career. Today the average length of stay for classes in Frankfurt is about a week.

In 1924, 1928 and 1933 Jaspert was elected to the city council. From 1924 to 1928 and 1933 to 1934 he was a city councilor.

During the Weimar Republic , Jaspert was a member of the German National People's Party (DNVP), for which he sat in the provincial parliament of the Hesse-Nassau province from 1926 to 1933 , most recently as a member of the Black-White-Red Combat Front . At the same time, he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament in 1928, to which he belonged until 1932. In the state parliament, he represented constituency 19 (Hessen-Nassau).

From 1931 to 1933 Jaspert was chairman of the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs . As the personally elected chairman, Friedrich Hermann Löscher stood by his side as executive chairman of the association. In 1931, under Jasper's chairmanship, the stylized fir was chosen as the association's emblem that is still valid today.

Jaspert wrote several educational writings, including a. The children's town of Wegscheide (1922).
