Heinrich Salzmann (District Administrator)

Heinrich Salzmann (born September 15, 1896 in Zell (Mosel) , † July 11, 1979 in Trier ) was a German district administrator .

Life and origin

After he had passed the final examination at the grammar school in Traben-Trarbach , he served immediately afterwards as a war volunteer in the First World War , where he was seriously wounded and returned as a lieutenant in the reserve . From 1919 he was a trainee at the office, the savings bank and the Zell district administration, where he was taken on as an employee in 1923. From 1926 to 1934 he was official mayor in Zeltingen and from 1934 mayor in office Konz . Towards the end of the Second World War , the administrative office in Konz was evacuated to Zell on the Moselle. There Heinrich Salzmann was appointed by the Americans as district administrator for the district of Trier on April 3, 1945 . As the Office Konz together with the in 1946 County Saarburg by the French military government the Saarland was assigned to Salzmann protested against this decision, but it was discontinued in September of the same year by the military government as a district administrator. From then on, he worked for the Trier government and Koblenz government as a local authority . In August 1950, Salzmann was reappointed district administrator for the Trier district, which he remained until December 31, 1961 when he retired. During his second term as district administrator, u. a. the new district building was built and the port of Trier planned and built, measures in which he played a major role.

Salzmann was also a co-founder and, from 1947 to 1950, managing director of the municipal umbrella associations Landkreistag and Gemeindetag Rhineland-Palatinate . In his second term as district administrator, he was chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate district assembly, member of the presidium of the German district assembly , member of the administrative board of Südwestfunk and part-time chairman of the supervisory board of Werbe GmbH of Südwestfunk. In 1961, Heinrich Salzmann was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Order of Merit for his services to local self- government. Salzmann was married to Josefa, née Rütten.
