Kalkkuhl is a district of Gummersbach in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

Kalkkuhl is located near the western city limits of Gummersbach and is approx. 8.3 km from the center. The few buildings in the town are grouped in a loose formation at the southern foot of the Nordhelle (390 m above sea level) in the Gelpe valley, an approximately 5.2 km long tributary of the Leppe .

history

Even though the older and oldest history of Kalkkuhl cannot be substantiated by unequivocal documents, it is certain that the residential area has been inhabited for a very long time. One of the main reasons for this was the apparently very rich limestone deposit , from which the place derives its name.

"This farm takes its name from the large amount of limestone that has been broken and burned there for unbelievable years."

- Franz von Steinen : Special history of the Lieberhausen, Marienheide, Gimborn and Müllenbach parishes, no year (around 1850)

In part, Kalkkuhl achieved supra-regional importance in another area, namely that of school education. The place with its Latin school represented the school center of the Gelpe valley. Probably already before the Thirty Years War , demonstrably from 1670 lessons were given here; initially by the ministerial minister in personal union, from October 15, 1727 by a specially appointed schoolmaster. Despite very poor external circumstances - the half-timbered house from 1695, in which or from 1812 in its barn-like extension the lessons in “spelling, reading, Christianity, spelling and spelling, arithmetic, writing letters, geography and the use of maps as well as French language and music “ Was taught, still exists today - at times some of the 20 to 80 students came from far away and stayed with farmers in the area. At the end of 1844, classes in Kalkkuhl were discontinued after more and more students had migrated to Hülsenbusch , the administrative seat of the municipality of Gimborn formed in 1819 .

The place Kalkkuhl belonged to the imperial rule Gimborn-Neustadt until 1806 .

In 1781 Kalkkuhl had 30 inhabitants, in 1817 24 people lived here; In 1974 the population was only 12, only to increase to 19 today (2008).

The Kalkkuhl bus stop is connected by bus routes 307 (Gummersbach Bf - Berghausen - Lindlar ) and 316 (Gummersbach Bf - Neuremscheid - Lindlar).
