Location of Neuenschmiede in Gummersbach

Neuenschmiede is a district of Gummersbach in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

geography

The single farm is located on the eastern city limits of Gummersbach and is approx. 14.1 km from the city center. It is located around 450 m east of the Homert summit on the federal motorway 45 (“Sauerlandlinie”), near the “Neuenschmiede” motorway rest area . Neighboring districts are Bracht to the northwest , Neuenhaus to the north, Strasse to the southwest and Piene to the south-southwest .

history

The establishment of the settlement probably took place at the beginning of the 18th century with the establishment of a homestead. In 1923 the property including almost five hectares of cultivated land was sold for 30 million marks . Three years later the house was completely destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the same place. When the Americans marched in on April 11, 1945, another fire caused by shelling devastated the house; another rebuilding followed.
