Lantenbach is a district of Gummersbach in the Oberbergischer Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

geography

The place is about 8.0 km from the city center on the southeast edge of the Langer Berg / Unnenberg massif and the Aggertalsperre . The neighboring districts are Frömmersbach in the southwest, Unnenberg in the north-northwest and Bredenbruch in the north-northeast direction.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1450: Krevet to Lantenbeke , her sons and two brothers were among the wax interest groups of the Cologne apostle monastery .

At least around 1900, Lantenbach was still considered the most important place between Gummersbach and Lieberhausen . At that time the population was just under 250; In 1811 there were already 170 people living here in around 25-30 houses. This fact is all the more remarkable since on September 13, 1748 almost all of Lantenbach fell victim to a conflagration.

From the beginning of the 19th to the 1970s, Lantenbach was the location of a (elementary) school with up to 140 students. After the school reform, the primary school students were assigned to Becke and the secondary school students to Derschlag ; A kindergarten was set up in the school building .

Economy and industry

The largest employer in town is the ABUS Kransysteme company for overhead traveling cranes .

Culture

The men's choir MGV Lantenbach alias "Lantemicker men singers" is located in Lantenbach. The approximately 20 members under the direction of Joachim Kottmann celebrated the 125th anniversary of the former master choir in 2012.

leisure

As the main town in the Aggertalsperren area, Lantenbach is the starting point for water-related leisure activities (swimming and diving, rowing and sailing). The place has a large (youth) campground.

Hiking and bike paths

From the Lantenbach car park, the Sauerland Mountain Association offers the A1 (4.5 km), A3 (4.6 km) and A4 (9.7 km) hiking trails .

Attractions

The Aggertalsperre with its 45 m high dam built between 1927 and 1929 attracts many interested people all year round. In the case of repairs or inspection work that is repeatedly due, for which the entire water level is often drained, relics of the flooded town of Becke and partially preserved quarries as well as the course of the old military road from Cologne to Westphalia can be viewed.
