Location of Rospe in Gummersbach |
Rospe is a district of Gummersbach in the Oberbergischer Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .
Location and description
The place is located about 2.7 km southwest of the city center on both sides of the Rospebach .
The legendary Rosper Zwergenloch is located above the slope near the left bank of the stream . According to tradition, it should be the exit of an underground escape route, which should reach under the Gummersbacher "Burg" ( Vogtei ). At the same time, there are numerous legends about the use in various wars and about a prison camp in the cave, where the prisoners are said to have starved to death. In truth, however, the 200 m long "dwarf cave" (that is the official name of cadastral number 4911/002) belongs to a system of karst caves , which are not connected to one another.
The dwarf hole was renovated in the 1990s by the Kluterthöhle working group , all non-natural fixtures were removed and a bat protection gate was added. In the following period, the cave site was purchased by the Kluterthöhle working group to ensure the permanent protection of the cave.
In 1998 the Rosper cave ( cadastral number 4911/010 /) was discovered in Rospe during construction work near the dwarf hole . This has a corridor length of 602 m and a level difference of 28 m.
The Rosper caves as well as the two show caves Wiehler stalactite cave in Wiehl and Aggertal cave in Engelskirchen - Ründeroth are managed by the working group Kluterthöhle e. V. speleological care.
