Niedernhagen is a district of Gummersbach in the Oberbergischer Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany and borders in the north on the municipality of Marienheide .
geography
The district is about 4.1 km from the city center on the K 46, which creates a busy connection between the L 323 (Gummersbach - Meinerzhagen ) and the federal highway 256 . The neighboring district of Becke is located in the southeast of Niedernhagen .
Niedernhagen is located in the lower valley of the Sieper Bach (a right tributary of the Thalbecke ) on the eastern slope of the Henneckenberg (402 m above sea level).
history
According to the settlement researcher Heinrich Dittmaier , the name ending "-hagen" means a space enclosed by a hedge in a forest enclosure . Thus, the emergence of Niedernhagen can be dated to the great clearing period of the High Middle Ages (11th – 13th centuries).

In 1736 Peter Schirp built a paper mill, which was driven by the Sieper Bach and was in operation for about 130 years. From the 1860s the building housed a spinning mill for around 60 years, and since 1920 there has been a branch of the Klöckner-Moeller electrical company .
Culture
Attractions
The historical factory of the Moeller company is an excellently maintained object of Bergisch industrial culture. This also includes the freely accessible large pond including the swan house. In 1978 the company received a bronze plaque for the successful urban planning of the factory buildings in the landscape and the environment and for the excellent design of the workplaces as part of a national competition.
Sports
The TV Niedernhagen is a small traditional sports club and at the same time the driving force for many activities of the local community.
economy
- Moeller GmbH manufactures contactors and auxiliary switches for power distribution and automation in its Niedernhagen plant .
- In the Basalt-Actien-Gesellschaft (BAG) quarry less than 300 m away , greywacke is extracted and processed for road construction. The current dismantling permit was valid until 2005. For the following period, an extension and expansion of the dismantling permit was applied for by the BAG. The approval process is still ongoing (as of August 2008) and is being critically monitored by an initiative by the affected residents from Niedernhagen and Berghof ( Marienheide ).
