Vollmerhausen in the Oberbergischer Kreis is a district of the city of Gummersbach in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

First mention

Vollmerhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1447. The term “Volmerhusen” is used in the accounts of the rent master Johann van Flamersfelt , which is still the local pronunciation of the place name.

Textile industry

According to most historians, the textile industry usually moves to the poorest areas of a country, which is why it also found its home in the Oberbergischen, which was also known as "Oat Spain". The Leopold Krawinkel spinning mill was responsible for the breakthrough in the textile industry . It was the largest employer in Vollmerhausen until it was closed in the 1960s. The company was also important for the development of the place, among other things, company apartments and a girls' home were built around 1885 .

traffic

Vollmerhausen used to have two train stations / stops, one each on the Siegburg – Olpe line of the Aggertalbahn and Dieringhausen – Hagen (Vollmerhausen-Berg) of the Volmetalbahn . Both buildings face each other on the route in the Bahnstraße area to this day. Vollmerhausen Valley was abandoned in 1924. The now separated and fragmented line to Olpe lost its passenger traffic in 1979, and no trains stopped at the stop towards Gummersbach for a long time.

Bundeswehr location

From 1965, the townscape was also shaped by the Air Force Material Depot 83, which belonged to the Air Force Supply Regiment 8 of the Bundeswehr in Mechernich. After the closure of the Krawinkel textile factory, it used the former factory site and its buildings. The location was closed on March 31, 1993 . The old buildings that stretched on both sides of the B 55 were demolished around 1995. Today there is an industrial park with a hardware store, gas station, car wash, etc.
