Towers
Unnenberg Tower
On the Unnenberg stands the observation and mobile phone tower Unnenbergturm , which was inaugurated on July 20, 2001 about seven months after the start of construction. It was built from a steel framework with a reinforced concrete foundation and is a replacement for a lookout tower that was built in 1934 from a discarded high-voltage pylon. The tower is around 45 m high and has a viewing platform at around 31.8 m (highest publicly accessible point in the Oberbergischer Kreis), to which 171 steps lead. A few meters north of the tower is the tower restaurant Unnenberg , which has been closed since October 2009; however, the neighboring Unnenbergtreff kiosk is open on weekends and public holidays.
The view extends into the Siebengebirge and on days with particularly good visibility ( inversion weather conditions ) from the Hohe Acht in the Hocheifel and the Westerwald in the south to the thermal power stations in the Ruhr area near Dortmund in the north and from the peaks of Cologne Cathedral and Cologne TV tower Colonius in the west to Hunau (with the Bödefeld telecommunications tower ) near Schmallenberg in the Hochsauerland in the east. Furthermore, the Rhein-Weser-Turm on the ridge of the Rothaargebirge and the Bergisches Land from Langenberg in the north to Windeck in the south can be visually located.
The radio amateurs from the local chapter Gummersbach the German Amateur Radio Club operate on the lookout tower amateur radio relay in addition to that of E-Plus built mobile network equipment.
Transmission tower
About 80 m southwest of the Unnenberg tower there is a transmission tower just above the 500 m height line .
Traffic and walking
A narrow road runs over the Unnenberg and branches off from Landesstraße 337 ( Unnenberger Straße ) south of the village of Dannenberg (in the north-northwest) and leads to Unnenberg (in the south-southwest). For example, starting at these roads, the mountain can be hiked on forest paths and paths. The Lenne-Sieg-Weg runs over the mountain as a 115 km long hiking trail .
