The Genkel is a 7.1 km long orographically right tributary of the Agger in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . It flows through the Märkischer Kreis and the Oberbergischer Kreis .

geography

The Genkel rises in Meinerzhagen , about 500 m west of the district near the district Güntenbecke at an altitude of 448  m above sea level. NN . From here it first flows to the southwest and after about one kilometer turns its course in a wide arc to the southeast. It flows through the district of Meinerzhagen of the same name and after 2.7 km it reaches the foothills of the Genkeltalsperre .

Only 500 m after leaving the Genkeltalsperre, the Genkel reaches the Aggertalsperre . After passing a fore basin, it forms the western of three arms of the Aggertalsperre, the Genkel arm . It has covered 7.1 km to the confluence with the Aggertalsperre, overcoming a difference in altitude of 164 m, which corresponds to a bed gradient of 23.1 ‰.

Before the construction of the Aggertalsperre, the Genkel emptied after a run of approx. 8.5 km between the mountain ranges Lümer and Die Burg at 277  m above sea level. NN in the Agger.
