The Heilgeistkirche in Abtshagen

The Heilgeistkirche in the district of Abtshagen in the West Pomeranian community of Wittenhagen is a Protestant church , the oldest parts of which date from the 14th century.

Building description

The nave is a brick- built, rectangular, four-bay hall with a polygonal east end and a south sacristy . There are stepped buttresses on the ship. The original pointed arch portals on the north and south sides were walled up to form windows. A younger pointed arch portal can be found on the north side. The windows of the ship have central mullions, the windows on the south side are designed in three parts. The windows show a special form of a triangular pointed arch with a vertical framework, which occurs at the Marienkirche Stralsund and some other churches in the area ( Kenz , Voigdehagen ).

The stone wall built halfway up on the north side probably comes from a previous building. The tower wears a pyramid helmet .

history

The nave and the southern sacristy date from the second half of the 14th century or the beginning of the 15th century. The church tower in the west is made of wood and was built in 1667, but destroyed in a fire in 1999 and rebuilt the following year.

Furnishing

Ribbed vaults can be found in the interior.

The oldest piece of furniture is a granite baptism from the 14th century. There are grave slabs from 1794, 1801 and 1813.

The neo-Gothic furnishings from 1843 were partially removed again. A pulpit altar, an organ gallery, galleries in the western ship's bay and the stalls have been preserved from this equipment.

The organ , a Buchholz organ from 1842, was renovated in 2001 by Rainer Wolter ( Zudar ). It has eight registers in a three-part, neo-Gothic prospectus .

Peal

There is a bell in the church tower that dates from 2000.

The Protestant parish has been part of the Stralsund Propstei in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany since 2012 . Before that she belonged to the Demmin parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .
