Albert Theodor Wossidlo (* July 7, 1794 in Abtshagen ; † May 17, 1859 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and writer. He was a pastor in Abtshagen in New Western Pomerania and wrote for theological magazines and for entertainment papers.

Life

He was born in Abtshagen in what was then Swedish Pomerania as the son of the pastor. His father, Johann Christian Wossidlo, came from Posen , had studied at the University of Frankfurt and had been a pastor in Abtshagen since 1780.

Wossidlo attended the Stralsund high school and began his studies at the University of Greifswald in 1814 . His father had intended him for law, but he decided to study theology. He continued his studies at the University of Göttingen , where among others Friedrich Ludewig Bouterweck and Heinrich Ludwig Planck were his teachers.

In 1817 he finished his studies and was added to his father in Abtshagen as second pastor and successor. He married, but his wife died after giving birth to a daughter. He soon got sick and was unable to serve as a pastor for several years. During his illness, however, he was able to do research and even publish cheerful little stories.

After his recovery he returned to work as a pastor. In 1832 he gave his second inaugural sermon. He refused an offer for the position of superintendent in Wolgast . In the fall of 1832 he married again. He published in theological magazines and in entertainment papers and was a board member of the Stralsund branch of the Gustav Adolf Foundation . Since 1838 he was also a member of the literary-sociable association in Stralsund, where he gave lectures, some of which were published in the Stralsund magazine Sundine . In the last years of his life he was particularly concerned with hymnology and published articles on it.
