Helmut Grimm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helmut Grimm (* 1940/41) is a German biologist and former head of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park .

Live and act

Grimm studied biology to become a teacher in Hamburg and originally wanted to become a teacher. He decided to do a doctoral thesis and obtained his doctorate in 1975 on the genetic relationships of Anatolian toothcarps with the zoologist Curt Karl-Franz Kosswig . He then worked at the University of Hamburg and at a school book publisher.

In 1986, Grimm took over the management of public relations in the then newly created National Park Office. In 1988 he became deputy head and in March 2003 director of the National Park Office. Grimm always emphasized the great opportunities the national park has for tourism. When the dispute over zoning in the national park boiled up in the run-up to the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 1999, he said: “There are fears of change here. The park represents a great opportunity for the region. You can market that! "

In October 2006, Grimm retired after reaching the age limit. At his farewell party in the Multimar Wattforum he was honored by Agriculture Minister Christian von Boetticher with a speech as “a man of the first hour of the National Park”.

In 2014, Grimm was awarded the Golden Brent Goose Feather . Environment Minister Robert Habeck formulated in his laudation : “Helmut Grimm has shaped the public perception of the national park for more than two decades. Millions of visitors to the west coast experience this every year: in information centers, on nature trails or on excursions. A holistic educational approach was important to the educator Grimm. This can be found in the educational offers that have been developed for schools as well as in the Multimar Wattforum , which would not exist without Helmut Grimm. His concept of involving as many other institutions as possible in addition to the municipalities as national park partners in the development of the national park and, in particular, involving commercial enterprises, continues to attract more and more circles.
