In the north, the Schaproder Bodden is connected to the Vitter Bodden by the trough between the ferry island and the Stolper Haken on the island of Rügen . In the south, the Bodden merges into the Kubitzer Bodden . A border would be the line between the southern peaks of Hiddensee (Geller Haken) and Ummanz or the connection from Geller Haken - Insel Heuwiese . The Bodden is part of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park and belongs to the West Rügen Bodden .

The Schaproder Bodden is 4.5 meters deep in three places, otherwise very shallow (mostly less than 1.5 meters). Another source mentions water depths of 6 m.

In the southwestern part of the Bodden in front of Hiddensee runs out in a very shallow wind . Islands of this Bodden are the Gänsewerder , the Fährinsel and the Öhe . The bay was named after the main town on Rügen on the bay of Schaprode . On the Rügen side, in addition to the eponymous main town, there are also the villages of Samtens and Gingst .

The ferry lines Hiddensee – Schaprode, Hiddensee– Stralsund and Hiddensee– Zingst run through the Bodden .

There is a privately operated campsite on the bay .

The water is also popular for fishing , water hiking or windsurfing . Driving with motor boats in water depths of less than two meters is not permitted.
