Balthasar Alexander von Platen

Balthasar Alexander von Platen (* 1725 on Gut Dornhof ; † May 6, 1757 outside Prague ) was a Prussian captain and adjutant to Field Marshal Kurt Christoph von Schwerin .

Life

Balthasar Alexander was a member of rügischen noble family von Platen . His parents were the Rügen district administrator , Swedish major and heir to Dornhof, Christoph Ernst von Platen (1687–1753) and his first wife Ulrica Lucretia, née von Bohlen (1701–1732). The Prussian War and Domain Council and Director of the Swedish Court in Western Pomerania Christoph Ernst August von Platen (* 1723) and the Swedish Field Marshal and Governor General of Swedish Pomerania Philip Julius Bernhard von Platen (1732-1805) were his brothers.

Balthasar Alexander joined the Prussian army and served as an officer . He took part in the Silesian Wars , where he suffered several wounds, including as an ensign in the battle of Hohenfriedeberg . Finally he became adjutant to Field Marshal Kurt Christoph von Schwerin and stayed with him as captain in the battle of Prague .

Prince Heinrich of Prussia dedicated a plaque to him (No. 25) on his Rheinsberg obelisk :

"V. Platen, adjutant to Marshal Schwerin. He combined all the qualities that gave hope that he would replace this great man. It fell to his side on May 6th, 1757. "
