Philip Julius Bernhard von Platen (born March 14, 1732 at Gut Dornhof near Schaprode ; † April 23, 1805 ibid) was a Swedish politician and field marshal .

Life

family

Philip Julius Bernhard was a member of rügischen noble family von Platen . His parents were the Rügen district administrator , Swedish major and heir to Dornhof, Christoph Ernst von Platen (1687–1753) and his first wife Ulrica Lucretia, née von Bohlen (1701–1732). The Prussian War and Domain Councilor and Director of the Swedish Court Court in Western Pomerania Christoph First August von Platen (* 1723) and the Prussian captain and adjutant of General Field Marshal Kurt Christoph von Schwerin , Balthasar Alexander von Platen (1725–1757), were his older brothers.

In 1761 he married Juliane Regine von Usedom (1741-1810). There are six children from the marriage, including:

  • Karl Gustav (March 14, 1762; † February 3, 1819), Lieutenant General ∞ Maria Ottiliana Strantze (* February 21, 1771; † December 5, 1811)
  • Friedrich Wilhelm (* September 4, 1763; † August 15, 1788) ∞ Maria Carolina Sofia von der Lancken (* April 4, 1760; † January 22, 1837)
  • Juliana Maria Luise (April 7, 1765 - May 7, 1824) ∞ Erik Peter Stiernsparre (1730–1802), Colonel
  • Baltzar (born May 29, 1766; † December 6, 1829) ∞ Hedwig Elisabeth Ekman (born November 18, 1780; † February 13, 1862)
  • Ernst Christopher (* May 27, 1768; † September 2, 1785)
  • Charlotte Wilhelmine (March 17, 1779 - March 16, 1860) ∞ Baron Erik Henrik Vilhelm Haij (1773–1821), major general

career

He came on August 16, 1746 as a volunteer in the Queen's body regiment. On June 22, 1748 he moved to the regiment of Major General von Schwerin, who was in the Swedish service. On December 31, he became a sergeant there and on August 5, 1749, he was returned to the Queen's body regiment as a sergeant. On December 14, 1752 he was appointed lieutenant and on March 3, 1758, Rittmeister and commander of a squadron of hussars. On April 24, he was appointed secondary major in the Blue Hussar Regiment and on April 28, 1760 Premier Major in the Yellow Hussar Regiment. On June 23, 1762 he came as a lieutenant colonel in the Green Dragoon Regiment (Bohusläns), from there he was transferred to the Nord-Skane Cavalry Regiment on December 10. On August 17, 1772 he was promoted to colonel and on October 16, 1776 to major general.

Von Platen was introduced to the Swedish knight house on October 23, 1778 . On August 23, 1788 he rose to lieutenant general and on November 2, 1795 advanced to cavalry general , was promoted to the status of Swedish baron on November 1, 1797 and rose to field marshal on November 16, 1799. From 1796 to 1800 he was Governor General of Swedish Pomerania and in this capacity at the same time Chancellor of the University of Greifswald .

He fought in the Seven Years' War in Pomerania from 1758–1762 and was wounded in the battle near Löcknitz. He also fought in the war against Russia in Finland from 1788 to 1790 .
