Friedrich Wilhelm von Hessenstein
Friedrich Wilhelm, Imperial Prince of Hesse Stone (Swedish: Fredrik Vilhelm von Hessen Stone ) (* February 27 . Jul / 10. March 1735 . Greg in Stockholm ; † 27. July 1808 in Panker ) was a Swedish soldier and statesman.
Life
Friedrich Wilhelm was an illegitimate son of King Friedrich of Sweden from the House of Hesse-Kassel and his mistress , Countess Hedwig Ulrike Taube von Odenkat (1714–1744).
His father gave him and his brother the rule of Hessenstein (the Panker , Klamp , Schmoel and Hohenfelde estates ), which he owned alone after the death of his younger brother Karl Eduard (Carl Edvard) in 1769. With a diploma dated February 28, 1741, he and his brother were received by the then Imperial Vicar , Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, August III. , raised to imperial count of Hessenstein. On November 7, 1772, Friedrich Wilhelm became Prince of Hessenstein as a personalist . In 1799 he received the title of Highness from the King of Sweden . Between 1795 and 1800 he released the peasants from serfdom on his property .
In 1773 he became a Swedish field marshal and in 1776 a privy councilor . From 1776 to 1791 he was Governor General of Swedish Pomerania . Under his governorate, Jewish and Catholic communities were allowed in Pomerania. Hessenstein was also Chancellor of the University of Greifswald and an avowed Freemason . In 1778 he donated the soldiers' orphanage in Stralsund .
According to unconfirmed information, in 1786 he became the father of the illegitimate daughter of Princess Sophie Albertine , the sister of Gustav III. He died unmarried in 1808. Karl von Hessen-Kassel became his heir .
