The village church Schlemmin is a native of the 13th century village church in the Vorpommern community Schlemmin .

History and design

The construction of the church began around 1280 with the typical regional brick . The western part of the nave was not extended until the 15th century with field stones and a church tower was built. The nave was doubled in length.

The gable of the east wall shows a Lorraine cross . When and why it was placed here is unclear.

The current tower dome dates from the 18th century.

In its current form, the church was consecrated in 1878 after a major renovation. During this Gothic remodeling, the windows were also redesigned. The sacristy built on the north side, like the southern extension, probably dates from 1878.

Access to the tower's viewing platform is no longer possible after the last repair in 1998.

Furnishing

The entire equipment dates from 1878: altar , stalls, pulpit and wooden box ceiling.

organ

The organ was built in 1841 by Carl August Buchholz . It was donated by Wilhelm Ulrich von Thun . Conversions and repairs probably took place in 1878, 1917 and 1945 (woodworm treatment). The organ was no longer playable for over 50 years. She was missing about 50 pipes . The repair began in 2002 and was completed in 2003; on February 16, 2003 it was put back into operation with a concert.

Peal

The only bell is made of bronze , bears the dedication “Soli Deo Gloria” (“Glory to God alone”) and was cast in 1855. Patron was Wilhelm Ulrich von Thun.

The parish of Ahrenshagen / Pantlitz has been part of the Stralsund Propstei in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany since 2012 . Before that she belonged to the Stralsund parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .
