history

Church in Heiligenhagen

The place Heiligenhagen was first mentioned in a document in 1232. The donation of two Hufen of the place to the Cistercian monastery in Amelungsborn , which was confirmed by Nikolaus von Werle , was documented. At that time the place was still called Wildeshusen . In the following period there was a significant increase in the population due to Westphalian farmers. A typical Hagen , i.e. a forest clearing village , emerged for this area . In 1304 Heiligenhagen was mentioned again, this time under the name Heiligengeisteshagen . The background was an interim transfer to the Heilig-Geist-Spital in Riga , in whose possession the place remained until 1427. That year half of the village was sold to the two Rostock mayors Heinrich Buk and Johann Oderich. As both had to flee from Rostock to Bützow for political reasons in the following year, they sold the village to Katharina von Mecklenburg , which brought the village into state ownership .

Heiligenhagen was predominantly agricultural, so a cadastral map from 1742 shows essentially ten farmers with their farms. In 1900, eleven Hufner had converted their farms into three-sided farms . In 1945 there were twelve Hufner, 33 Büdner and 32 Häusler in Heiligenhagen.

On July 1, 2003, Heiligenhagen merged with five other municipalities to form the new municipality of Satow.

Today only a few residents are active in agriculture. There are around 63 traders, the L 10 and A 20 offer good transport links for residents and businesses.

Memorial in Heiligenhagen

The oldest surviving building in the village is the village church from around 1300 . There are still two thatched Büdner houses from the first half of the 19th century. A little south of the church is the listed memorial to the victims of the First World War. During the renovation in 2010, an additional stone was set up to “commemorate the victims of war and violence”.
