List of pumped storage power plants
This list of pumped storage power plants contains both operating and planned pumped storage power plants . It does not claim to be complete.
Largest pumped storage power plants worldwide
The following table shows a selection of the worldwide pumped storage power plants with a nominal output of equal to or more than 1 GW (1,000 MW).
Pumped storage power plants in individual countries
Germany
In Germany , a pumped storage power of about 7 GW (gigawatts) is installed. The storage capacities are sufficient for 4–8 hours of continuous operation every day. This resulted in a total storage capacity of around 40 GWh in 2010. In 2006, the German pumped storage power plants generated 4,042 GWh of electrical energy. This contrasted with a pumping work of 5,829 GWh, so that the average efficiency was around 70%.
The Vianden pumped storage plant on the dammed up German-Luxembourg border river Our is listed in this article under “Luxembourg”, although it is connected to the European network in Germany and the plant is also listed in the power plant list of the German Federal Network Agency.

Norway
Norway has around 1250 hydropower plants, the vast majority of which are storage power plants without a pumping function. Many of these power plants have both an upper and a lower lake, so that they could be converted into a pumped storage power plant with relatively little effort. Only those power plants are listed that are already designed as pumped storage power plants or where the application for or expansion to PSP is in progress.
