The Čierny Váh (German Black Waag ) is a reservoir in northern Slovakia on the edge of the Low Tatras . This is part of a hydropower plant . The lake is formed by the damming of the Čierny Váh river of the same name , a source river of the Váh , after which it was named. At the eastern end of the lake there is a village of the same name, Čierny Váh , a forest workers' settlement. The lake is located in the municipality of Kráľova Lehota .

The river feeds the lake from the east. To the west it is closed by a dam wall . Behind this is a hydroelectric power station. It is a pumped storage plant , the lower basin of which is the Čierny Váh. The upper basin is located on Mount Turková to the north at an altitude of 1160 meters without its own inflow. The power plant was inaugurated in 1981 and 1982 after eight years of planning and construction. The plant has six Francis and one Kaplan turbines , which have a theoretical total output of 735.17 megawatts . This is divided between the six Francis turbines (TG1 to TG6) with 122.4 megawatts each and the Kaplan turbine (TG7) with 0.77 megawatts. The flow downhill to drive the turbines is 30 m³ / s, while uphill 22 m³ / s are pumped. The difference in water level between the upper and lower reservoirs is between 401 and 434 meters, depending on the filling level. In terms of installed capacity, the plant is the largest hydropower plant in Slovakia. The average annual production between 2000 and 2009 was 139.724 GWh. The bank of the Čierny Váh is fortified with rubble .
