The Čierny Váh (German Black Waag , Hungarian Fekete-Vág ) is the longer of two headwaters of the Slovakian river Waag in the historical Liptov region ; Strictly speaking, Čierny Váh is actually the name of the Upper Waag (as the Čierny Váh is longer than the Biely Váh ).
The Čierny Váh rises in the Low Tatras on the slope of the Kráľova hoľa and is 39 km long. The river is located in the Čiernovážska dolina (literally Black Waag Valley) and flows at the beginning northeast to north to the municipality of Liptovská Teplička , then in a westerly direction. The valley also forms the border between the Low Tatras and the Kozie chrbty . In the course of the river there is a reservoir of the same name Čierny Váh with a hydroelectric power station (Slov. Vodná nádrž Čierny Váh ). The only municipalities on the river are Liptovská Teplička and Kráľova Lehota with the place named after the river Čierny Váh .
