The extracted material from the Monopoly area of the East Mine was fed to the Robert mine for the last ten years before its closure at the end of September 2010, where it was brought to the surface and processed further. The approx. 45% share of the tailings was transported by rail to the Sundern heap, where it was heaped up. The heap has a capacity of 30 million tons and is planned to be poured by 2020. In 2009 it was about 95 m above sea level. Reached NN, which corresponds to 25 meters above the surrounding level. As a dump dump, it has not yet been renatured and is not accessible to the public.

The groups RWE and RAG signed a letter of intent with their subsidiaries RAG Montan Immobilien and RWE Innogy in November 2010 to build a combined power plant from pumped storage and wind power on the Sundern heap . The pumped storage power plant should have an output of 15 to 20 megawatts , which would make it one of the smallest pumped storage facilities in Germany. According to a current study, the project is technically feasible, whereas the economic analysis is more difficult due to the unpredictable development of the energy landscape and the electricity prices. The construction costs of the project are given with an output of 10 MW at around 60 million euros. The targeted storage volume is around 600,000 m³. The area occupied by the system (30% of the dump) would be compensated elsewhere.
