Location and structure

Pelkum is in the west of the city of Hamm.

The settlements Selmigerheide (in the east), parish (in the south) and Westerheide (in the northwest) belong to Pelkum.

Neighboring communities

In 1967, Pelkum bordered in a clockwise direction to the west on the communities Lerche , Herringen , Wiescherhöfen and Weetfeld (all today to Hamm) and Westerbönen, Bönen and Nordbögge (all today to Bönen ).

In 1974, Pelkum bordered in a clockwise direction to the east with the city of Hamm and the communities of Rhynern , Bönen and Bergkamen (all in the Unna district) and Werne , Stockum and Bockum-Hövel (all in the Lüdinghausen district at that time ).

history

In Pelkum there is a memorial plaque and a grave of honor for those killed in the fighting of the Red Ruhr Army . According to eyewitness reports, the fiercest fighting took place there in 1920.

Pelkum part in the establishment of offices in the Prussian province of Westphalia to the Office Pelkum in district Hamm . On the occasion of the city of Hamm on April 1, 1901, the district became the district of Hamm. After an area expansion in 1929, this was renamed the Unna district in October 1930 .

On January 1, 1968, the former municipality of Pelkum was merged with the municipalities of Herringen, Lerche, Sandbochum and Weetfeld and parts of Wiescherhöfen to form the new municipality of Pelkum. This 40.65 km² large community with 25,337 inhabitants was dissolved again by the municipal reform with effect from January 1, 1975 and incorporated into the independent city of Hamm .

The Selbachpark is located in the southwest of Pelkum. It was created between 1971 and 1974. It offers opportunities for recreation and sport.
