Westtünnen is a district of the independent city of Hamm in the Rhynern district .

history

The founding of West Tünnen goes back to the noble lords and counts of Thunen, who also gave the district its name. Already in the early Middle Ages, these noble lords founded a village settlement in what is now West- and Osttünnen. The location of their former manor is now north of Von-Thünen-Straße, roughly in the middle between the current districts of Westtünnen and Osttünnen.

On January 1, 1968, the communities of Westtünnen (largely), Berge (previously part of the Rhynern Office ) and parts of Wiescherhöfen were incorporated into the city of Hamm. Westtünnen has belonged to the city of Hamm since January 1, 1975, and there to the district of Hamm-Rhynern .

The expansion of Dambergstrasse and the redesign of the village square as well as a DB stop are planned for the future as measures for urban development.
