The Stadtwerke Trier (SWT) provide the Rhineland-Palatinate county-level city of Trier on the Moselle in all areas of municipal infrastructure and are active in the region as gas and water utilities, as well as a service provider in the field of engineering. They sell the energy products Römerstrom and Römergas throughout Germany. After the liberalization of the energy supply and the start of the energy transition , digitalization in particular is currently determining the strategic orientation of the energy and infrastructure service provider .

The sovereign business areas such as wastewater treatment (since 2005) and public lighting (since 2016) are located in the umbrella company "SWT - Establishment of Public Law" (SWT-AöR) . The other business areas are handled in subsidiaries of SWT Stadtwerke Trier GmbH: SWT Stadtwerke Trier Versorgungs-GmbH (network and sales of energy and water, bath and sauna operation), SWT Stadtwerke Trier Verkehrs-GmbH (public transport), SWT Parken GmbH, SWT trilan GmbH (telecommunications). In addition, Stadtwerke Trier has numerous investments in various companies - especially in the field of renewable energies.

Areas

In the city itself and in the associated region, the SWT operate as an electricity , gas and drinking water supplier as well as a sewage disposal company and district heating supplier. They also operate public transport , seven multi-storey car parks , 'Das Bad an den Kaiserthermen' and 'Der Saunagarten an den Kaiserthermen' (formerly Stadtbad Trier ), telecommunications lines in Trier and solar, wind and water power plants in the region. SWT has been operating a natural gas filling station at the Aral filling station in Wittlich since 2004, and another one at the Görgen truck stop on Zurmaiener Strasse in Trier since October 1, 2007 .

The SWT as an institution under public law in the city of Trier

In the second half of the 19th century, the construction of a sewer network began in Trier , which was connected to a first, simple sewage treatment plant near St. Marien in 1901 . This was expanded in 1906 with a bar screen system, which was replaced by a screening system in 1911. In the same year a screening plant was also put into operation in Pallien . In 1959, today's main sewage treatment plant was inaugurated as a mechanical sewage treatment plant together with the Moselle culvert , and in 1983 a biological treatment stage was added. In 1984 another biological sewage treatment plant in Trier-Ehrang was connected to the network. In 1992, both sewage treatment plants were expanded to include phosphorus elimination as the third treatment stage, and since 1997/1998 the nitrogen content has also been removed from the wastewater. In 2010 the sewage network reached a length of 117 km.

The SWT Stadtwerke Trier supply GmbH

SWT Stadtwerke Trier Vertriebs-GmbH operates the cable-based supply network in Trier for gas, electricity, water and district heating, as well as the pool and sauna garden at the Kaiserthermen. In addition, in 2010 the company generated around 55.8 million kWh of electricity through its own solar, wind and hydropower plants. Together with RWE and 22 other municipal utilities from Germany, they are also participating in blocks D and E of the hard coal power plant in Westphalia, which are currently under construction .

Since the generation of electricity from renewable energies is subject to strong fluctuations, the SWT are planning a pumped storage power plant with an output of around 300 MW east of Trier in the community of Schweich . The project is currently on hold.

In addition to SWT Stadtwerke Trier GmbH, Enovos Deutschland AG from Saarbrücken and an RWE holding company also have a stake in the supply company.

SWT Parking GmbH

As a wholly owned subsidiary of SWT Stadtwerke Trier GmbH, SWT Parken GmbH operates the Basilika, City, Europahalle, Hauptmarkt, Konstantin, Ostallee and Viehmarkt multi-storey car parks with a total of around 3,200 parking spaces. The parking garages are connected to a parking guidance system. One of the first charging stations for electric cars in Trier is operated in the city car park.

SWT Stadtwerke Trier Verkehrs-GmbH ensures local transport in the city of Trier and in the immediate vicinity. With 20 lines and seven in so-called star traffic (Mon - Fri during off-peak times, all day on Saturdays and Sundays), the company operated a bus network of 513 km in 2010 with almost 80 buses and covered around 4.6 million commercial vehicle kilometers around 16.1 million passengers. At the urging of the city, with the timetable change in 2012, the line network was extremely expanded and compacted, including not only more frequent lines but also better connections to the city's industrial and commercial areas. In addition, a long-term cooperation with the Rhein-Mosel Verkehrsgesellschaft is sought in order to be able to offer further connections to the surrounding communities. A first project was the SWT line 8 merged with the RMV line 212 at the 2012 timetable change, with which Schweich received a city bus connection for the first time.

In recent years, all new cars have been ordered with the Blue Angel label, meaning that they are manufactured without environmentally harmful substances.

Since March 2012, SWT Stadtwerke Trier Verkehrs-GmbH has been operating a joint long-distance bus company with the Luxembourg company Voyages Emile Weber. The company operating under the name DeLux-Express GmbH offers daily connections between Luxembourg, Trier, Kaiserslautern and Frankfurt.
