The Huizhou Pumped Storage Power Plant is a pumped storage power plant near Huizhou in the Guangdong Province in the People's Republic of China . It has eight pump generators with an output of 2448 MW. The first units went online between 2007 and 2008.
The hydropower plant is supplied from a reservoir that is dammed by two shut-off structures . The main dam is a 56 m high and 156 m long dam wall made of rolled concrete . The second (auxiliary) dam is 14 m high and 133 m long. The water from the upper basin goes to a power station 420 m below ground, where it generates electricity, and then drains into a lower basin. This lower basin is dammed up by a 61 m high and 420 m long rolled concrete wall. From there, the water is pumped back into the upper basin by means of the pump generators so that it can be used again.
An average of 4200 GWh should be generated per year .
