The Blenheim-Gilboa Hydroelectric Power Station ( English Blenheim-Gilboa Hydroelectric Power Station ) is located in the Catskill Mountains of the US state of New York . The power plant has been operated by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) since 1973 , has a nominal output of just over 1.1  GW and is used to cover the peak load in the greater New York City area to the south .

The facility consists of two reservoirs, one at the foot and the other at the summit of Brown Mountain in the Schoharie Valley. Both storage basins each have a capacity of around 19 million m³. The lower basin is fed by the Schoharie Creek and formed by its backwater, which extends to the city of Gilboa. At times when electricity consumption is low, such as at night and on weekends, the power station works as a pumping station and pumps water from the lower basin via a pressure pipe into the upper basin on Brown Mountain. When there is a high demand for electricity from the New York City area, water is drained from the upper basin and electrical energy is generated from it.

The machine hall with four generators and four turbines is largely underground and is located in the area of the lower reservoir. When the water level in the lower basin is full, only about 1.5 m of the building structure protrudes from the water. The four generators each have an output of 290 MW, the generator voltage is 17  kV . In the outside area above the machine hall there are four machine transformers and a switchgear for the electrical connection to the supra-regional 345 kV network level. The total efficiency over one pumping cycle is 73% in this power plant.
