course
The Úhlava rises in the area of the municipality Železná Ruda on the western slope of the Pancíř (1214 m) in the protected landscape area Šumava , Bohemian Forest . On its northwestern headwaters, the stream flows north of the Storner forest past Sruby and is crossed by the Železná Ruda – Plzeň railway to the northeast of the Spitzberg tunnel . Between Bouřňák, Brčálník, Rudolfovna and Pod Můstkem, the Úhlava takes in numerous small streams in a swampy basin; the area was placed under protection in 2004 on an area of 49.79 hectares as the Brčálnické mokřady nature reserve . The stream is then dammed south of Hojsova Stráž in the Pod Černým jezerem reservoir; it forms the deep basin of the oldest pumped storage power plant in the Czech Republic, built between 1929 and 1930 , and the upper storage basin is the Černé jezero glacial lake . Past Ostříž, Úhlavské Údolí, Křížkov, the Gustavsthal hydropower station, Zadní Hamry, Fenzlův Dvůr and the Bílý potok hydropower station, the Hamry stream reaches the Hamry stream , where it heads north. The floodplains of the Úhlava between U Chalaka, Knížecí Dvůr, Veitlovský Dvorec II, U Mužíku, Kollerův Kostel, Dolní Spatův Dvůr, Na Sedle, Hamerský Dvůr and Rodrovský Dvorec have been protected as a nature reserve Úhlavský on 50.2076 ha since 2003 .
Below Hamerský Dvůr the Úhlava flows into the drinking water reservoir Nýrsko , on the sides of which are the places Zelená Lhota, Gubrův Dvorec, Na Špirku and Na Lesní Louce. The settlements of Veitlovský dvorec ( Veitlhof ), Přední Hamry, Tremlovský Dvorec ( Tremlhof ), Tremlův mlýn ( Tremlmühle ) and Bruckhof were flooded in 1970 by the construction of a dam . Above Stará Lhota, the Úhlava leaves the reservoir and flows past Milence, Pajrek and the Pajrek castle ruins near U Malátů from the Šumava landscape protection area and through Nýrsko .

Above Janovice nad Úhlavou and near Kal, the Úhlava is crossed twice by the Železná Ruda – Plzeň railway line.
Subsequently, the Úhlava forms on its course through the Švihovská vrchovina ( Schwihauer Bergland ) a broad valley to the sides of the places Svrčovec, Mala Strana, Sekrýt, Dolanský Mlyn, Chudinka, Komošín, Dolany , Cihelna, Výrov, Malechov and Trtštejn lie. The Úhlava then flows via Nový Mlýn, Vodotečský Dvůr, Červené Poříčí , Jíno, Borovy , Nezdice and Zelená Hora to Lužany ; the river below Červené Poříčí is bridged again by the Železná Ruda – Plzeň railway line. On its last twelve kilometers through the Pilsen city area, the Úhlava no longer has any tributaries. Immediately before the estuary, on the right of the Úhlava at Velká Homolka (371 m nm), there is a drinking water treatment plant for Pilsen and the surrounding area. After 108.8 kilometers, the Úhlava opens at the western foot of Velka Homolka in České údolí ( Czech Valley ) in Doudlevce three kilometers south of the center of Pilsen, in the Radbuza .
Between the Spitzberg tunnel and Zelená Lhota, between Nýrsko and Klatovy and between Kokšín and Přeštice, the Železná Ruda – Plzeň railway runs along the Úhlava.
