The Špičácký tunel (German: Spitzberg tunnel ) is a railway tunnel on the railway line Železná Ruda – Plzeň near Železná Ruda , which crosses under the ridge of the Bohemian Forest (Šumava). Until 2007 it was the longest railway tunnel in the Czech Republic at 1747 meters .
history
The tunnel between the Špičák and Hojsova Stráž-Brčálník stations was built between 1874 and 1877, killing numerous workers. It is the longest of three tunnels on the Železná Ruda – Plzeň line.
