history

church

Today's community was created in 1940 through the merger of the six previously independent towns, all of which are still parts of the community today. Initially, the municipality had the Hungarian name Amadékarcsa (until 1945) and then until 1948 in Slovak Amadeovské Korčany before it was renamed.

The area around the municipality was first mentioned in writing in 1215 as Corcha . The meaning of the name Karcsa is not clearly explained: some derive the word from an old Turkish name for a small fortified courtyard, while others point to a similarity with the old Hungarian judge title Karchas . In the Middle Ages, various villages were built in what is now the area, with the following names : Egyházaskarcha (1351), Remegkarcha (1355), Diákkarcha (1357), Barthalkarcha (1377), Lászlókarcha (1377) and Lucakarcha (1467). The places had and still have an agricultural character.

Until 1919, the places in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , they were again in Hungary from 1938-45.
