Čakany (until 1927 in Slovak "Knitteldorf" / "Kleiterdorf"; German Knitteldorf , Hungarian Pozsonycsákány - until 1907 Csákány ) is a municipality in Okres Dunajská Streda in western Slovakia . It belongs to the Trnavský kraj regional association .
The place was first mentioned in writing as Chakan in 1254 . Until 1918 the place was part of the Kingdom of Hungary , after which it belonged to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . However, due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he came back to Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
Older German-language forms of name are Kleitendorf, Kleiterdorf, Knittelsdorf, Schakkensdorf.
