Hviezdoslavov is a place and a municipality in southwest Slovakia , with 2155 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The community is located on the Great Rye Island ( Žitný ostrov ), part of the Slovakian Danube Lowland on the road between Šamorín and Zlaté Klasy , 26 kilometers from Bratislava and 27 kilometers from Dunajska Streda removed.
history
Hviezdoslavov as an independent community unit did not come into being until 1936, after the Vörösmajor , Jozemajor and Németsók farms were merged , on the land that largely belonged to the Pálffy (previously also Apponyi ) and Rudolf Wiener-Welten families . Even after the first real estate reform in Czechoslovakia in the early 1920s, Slovak and Czech colonists were invited to found a colony in the almost exclusively Hungarian-speaking Great Schüttinsel, at that time divided between the communities of Štvrtok na Ostrove and Mierovo . Among other things, the first Slovak-speaking school on the Great Schüttinsel was founded here. During the affiliation to Hungary in the years 1938-45 (see First Vienna Award ) Hviezdoslavov was part of Štvrtok na Ostrove (then called Csütörtök ).
