Horné Mýto (Hungarian Felsővámos - until 1907 Vámosfalu ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 923 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .

Seat of the municipal administration

The municipality is located in the northern part of the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The municipality is bounded by the Little Danube in the north and its arm Klátovské rameno in the south. The center of the village is at an altitude of 112  m nm and is 13 kilometers from Dunajská Streda .

Neighboring municipalities are Jahodná in the northeast and north, very briefly Tomášikovo in the north, Trhová Hradská in the east and south and Ohrady in the west.

history

Church in place

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1268 as Wamus (other sources only give it as Wamosfalw in 1406 ) and got its name after a toll station that stood at the ford over the arm Klátovské rameno . In 1553 Gáspár Sérédy owned four and Mihály Mérey three porta , for which a tax was due. In addition, the estate of Eberhardt ran a lucrative fishing business, which was mainly geared to sturgeon . In 1683 the village was affected by the Turks, a total of 104 inhabitants were captured. Later the Pálffy dynasty became landowners, like many other villages on the Big Island. In 1828 there were 67 houses and 485 inhabitants.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

From 1960 to 1990 Horné Mýto was merged together with Trhová Hradská in the municipality of Trhové Mýto.

According to the 2011 census, 957 inhabitants lived in Horné Mýto, including 873 Magyars, 62 Slovaks and four Czechs. 18 residents did not provide any information. 891 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 17 residents to the Reformed Church, four residents to the Congregational Church and two residents to the Evangelical Church AB; one resident professed a different denomination. 15 residents had no denomination and 28 residents had no denomination.
