Orechová Potôň (Hungarian Diósförgepatony ) is a municipality in southwestern Slovakia . It is located on the Great Schüttinsel in the Danube lowlands , 8 km from Dunajská Streda and about 40 km from Bratislava . Administratively, the municipality is divided into the districts Dolná Potôň , Orechová Potôň and Orechová Potôň-Lúky .
The first written mention was in 1397 as Gyospothon . In 1808 the place was united with a village called Förgepatony (today in Slovak also Förgeho Potôň ); In 1940, today's district Dolná Potôň (in Hungarian Bögölypatony ) was added. 1966–1990 the now independent municipality Vieska was part of Orechová Potôň. Historically, the place was part of Pressburg County in the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918/1919 , after which it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . 1938-1945 the place was again part of Hungary by the First Vienna Arbitration .
The old late classical reformed church (1870) was demolished in 1969; a new reformed church was built in 1977. In 1998 a Roman Catholic church was also built.
According to the 2001 census, the place had 1671 inhabitants, of which 93.5% Magyars, 5.9% Slovaks and 0.3% Czechs.
In 2008/2009 the Slovakiaring motorsport racetrack was built near the town and officially opened on October 1st, 2009. It is the first purpose-built racetrack in Slovakia.
