Veľké Dvorníky (Hungarian Nagyudvarnok ) is a municipality in southwestern Slovakia with 1,322 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .

The municipality is located in the central part of the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The municipal area is flat and deforested, drained by various small canals and covered by wetland and black soils. The center of the village is at an altitude of 114  m nm and is three kilometers from Dunajská Streda .

Neighboring municipalities are Malé Dvorníky in the northwest, Dunajský Klátov in the northeast, Ohrady in the east, Kútniky in the south and Dunajská Streda in the southwest.

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1252 as Vduornuk and was a village of royal courtiers (Hungarian udvar and Slov. Dvor = German "court"). It belonged to the estate of the Pressburg Castle .

In 1553 a total of 10.5 porta are recorded in a register. From the 16th century until serfdom was abolished, the village was owned by different sexes such as Amadé , Soldos , Zomor , Kondé , Biró and others. In 1828 there were 49 houses and 356 inhabitants in the agricultural village.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

From 1960 to 1990 the community was together with Malé Dvorníky part of the unified community Dvorníky na Ostrove .

population

According to the 2011 census, Veľké Dvorníky had 1,028 inhabitants, including 813 Magyars, 126 Slovaks, 79 Roma and four Czechs. Six residents made no statement. 878 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 47 residents to the Reformed Church, nine residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and four residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Congregational Church. 55 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 31 residents was not determined.
