Veľké Blahovo (until 1948 Slovak "Veľký Aboň"; Hungarian Nagyabony or Nemesabony ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 1583 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The community is located on the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The municipal area is flat, with heights of 114 m nm to 117 m nm , elongated to the north as far as the Little Danube and largely covered by auboils. The center of the village is at an altitude of 116 m nm and is three kilometers from Dunajská Streda .
Neighboring communities are Vydrany in the north, Dunajská Streda in the east, Kostolné Kračany in the south, Kráľovičove Kračany in the south-west, Orechová Potôň in the west and Mostová (district Šoriakoš ) in the north-west across the Little Danube.
history
Veľké Blahovo was first mentioned in writing in 1162 as terra Oboni . The name is derived from the old Hungarian name Aba. The village belonged to families from the lower nobility, among others Ordódy , Csiba and Olgyay are mentioned. In the years 1760–1765 the Ordódy country castle was built in rococo style, but it was demolished again around 1950. In 1828 there were 131 houses and 940 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture.
Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
In 1948 the Hungarian-sounding name Veľký Aboň was changed to Veľké Blahovo.

According to the 2011 census, Veľké Blahovo had 1,448 inhabitants, including 1,071 Magyars, 307 Slovaks, 17 Roma, six Czechs, five Jews and one each Bulgarian, Croat, Polish, Serb and Ukrainian; six residents were of a different ethnic group. 31 residents gave no answer. 1,013 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 193 residents to the Reformed Church, 28 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, seven residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Seventh-day Adventists, four residents to the Greek Catholic Church and the New Apostolic Church , three residents to the Old Catholic Church, two residents to the Mormons and the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident each to the Baha'i, the Jewish community and the Orthodox Church; eight residents were of other denominations. 88 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 86 residents has not been determined.
