Vydrany (until 1948 Slovak "Hodoš"; German Hodosch , Hungarian Hodos or Nemeshodos ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 1725 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .

geography

The community is located on the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The community area is flat and long from the center to the Little Danube, about ten kilometers away . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 116  m nm and is four kilometers from Dunajská Streda .

Neighboring municipalities are Dunajská Streda in the east (via the Malé Blahovo district ), Veľké Blahovo in the south and west and Tomášikovo in the north via the Little Danube.

history

Vydrany was first mentioned in writing in 1245 as Hodus and was initially part of the Bratislava Castle estate . In the 15th century the village became part of the lower nobility, but primarily to the Vermes and Hodossy families . In 1828 there were 133 houses and 951 residents who were employed in cattle breeding. There were seven Meierhöfe in the municipality.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938-45.

In 1948 the name, which sounds "Hungarian", was changed to Vydrany.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1,456 inhabitants in Vydrany, of which 1203 Magyars, 220 Slovaks, eight Czechs, six Roma and one German, one Moravian and one Pole; one resident was of a different ethnicity. 15 residents gave no answer. 846 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 364 residents to the Reformed Church, 20 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses, to the Evangelistic Church and to the Jewish community, two residents each to the Baptists and the Greek Catholic Church and the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Orthodox Church; four residents were of other denominations. 129 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 77 inhabitants has not been determined

Infrastructure and traffic

The basic infrastructure is partially developed: there are public water and gas pipes, but there is no sewer system or connection to a sewage treatment plant, and there is also no cable television network. The municipality runs a kindergarten and a primary school that speaks both Slovak and Hungarian, and there is a post office in the village. Vydrany is one kilometer from State Road 572 and three kilometers from Road No. 63 ; south of the village runs the Bratislava – Komárno railway line with a stop in Veľké Blahovo and a train station in Dunajská Streda.
