Holice (until 1948 Slovak "Gala"; Hungarian Gelle or Egyházgelle ) is a municipality in the southwest of Slovakia , with 2088 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The community is located on the Great Rye Island ( Žitný ostrov ), part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands . The town center is 11 kilometers from Dunajská Streda and 38 kilometers from the capital Bratislava .
history
The municipality is composed of the following cadastral municipalities : Beketfa, Čéfa, Kostolná Gala, Malá Budafa, Póšfa, Stará Gala, Veľká Budafa and Čentöfa. These are largely identical to the 7 parts of the municipality, except from Čéfa, which is called Čechová as part of the municipality and has also merged with the cadastral municipality of Čentöfa. Each village has its own story.
The capital was first mentioned in writing in 1250 as Galla
Until 1919 all places in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Arbitration 1938-45 they came back to Hungary.
In 1948 the place name was changed to the Slovak form that is still valid today for national political reasons.
