Macov (German Matzhausen , Hungarian Macháza ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 407 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the central part of the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 123  m nm and is eleven kilometers from Šamorín and 17 kilometers from Dunajská Streda .

Neighboring communities are Veľká Paka in the north, Lehnice in the north-east, Blatná na Ostrove in the south-east and Trnávka in the south-west.

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1367 as Machhaza and belonged to the estate of the Bratislava Castle . In 1440 part of it came into the possession of the Bittó family , which lasted until the 17th century. In 1574 four subject families lived in the village, in 1715 there were a total of three taxpayers. In 1828 there were seven houses and 64 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

From 1976 to 1990 Macov was part of the Trnávka municipality.

According to the 2011 census, there were 237 inhabitants in Macov, including 96 Slovaks, 93 Magyars, 28 Czechs, two Moravians and one German. One resident stated a different ethnic group and 16 residents did not answer. 165 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Mormons, the Greek Catholic Church, the Congregational Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; ten residents professed a different denomination. 33 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 21 residents was not determined.
