Mad (Hungarian Nagymad ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 572 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the central part of the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 114  m nm and is five and a half kilometers from Dunajská Streda .

Neighboring municipalities are Povoda and Kútniky in the north, Dolný Bar in the northeast and east, Dolný Štál in the southeast, Padáň in the south and Vrakúň in the southwest and west.

history

Reformed Tolerance Church

Mad was first mentioned in writing in 1254 and was owned by lower nobility families, in the 16th century by the Dóczy family . In 1828 there were 88 houses and 634 inhabitants.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-1945 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

From 1960 to 1990 Mad was part of the Dolný Bar municipality.

population

According to the 2011 census, Mad had 528 inhabitants, 459 of whom were Magyars, 58 Slovaks and one German. One resident indicated a different ethnic group and nine residents gave no information. 330 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 133 residents to the Reformed Church, four residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Greek Catholic Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 26 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 28 residents was not determined.
