church

Rohovce was first mentioned in writing as Zarva in 1250 , and the name Sanctus Andreas (1309) also occurs in the Middle Ages . The village belonged to different noble families: in the Middle Ages the Counts of St. Georgen and Bösing lived here . From the lower nobility it was the Sárkány , Illésházy , Batthyány and Pongrácz families . The former built a moated castle in the 15th century, which was given its current country palace-like appearance in 1570 and finally in 1730.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938-45.

The Hungarian name Nagyszarva literally means "big horn". In 1948 the name Veľká Sarva, derived from the Hungarian, was changed to Rohovce (meaning "horn village").
